SHEAP 2026: International School on High-Energy and Astro-Physics

Theme: Modified Gravity and Theoretical Foundations

Event Details

  • Date: August 13 – 20, 2026

  • Venue: The Institute for Fundamental Study (IF), Naresuan University, Phitsanulok, Thailand.

Overview

The SHEAP 2026 is an intensive academic program hosted by the Institute for Fundamental Study (IF). The school aims to provide a comprehensive bridge for advanced undergraduate and graduate students into the frontiers of High-Energy Physics and Astrophysics, focusing on the mathematical structures and physical implications of modified gravity.

Objectives

  • Foundation Building: To provide rigorous training in General Relativity, Field Theory, and Constraint Analysis.

  • Advanced Expertise: To introduce students to modern theories of gravity (Horndeski, DHOST, MMG) and Effective Field Theory (EFT).

  • International Collaboration: To facilitate knowledge exchange between Thai students and world-class experts from international institutions.

Scientific Scope & Key Topics

  • Fundamental Reviews: Review of GR, Field Theory, Cosmology, and Constraint Analysis.

  • Mathematical Foundations: Stability and Causality in gravity, and the Cauchy problem in modified gravity theories.

  • Modern Gravity Theories: Scalar-Tensor theory, Horndeski theory, GLPV theories, DHOST, U-DHOST, and Minimal Modified Gravity (MMG).

  • Effective Field Theory (EFT): Goldstone Bosons, EFT of Inflation, Dark Energy, and its applications in modern physics.

Key Speakers & Instructors

  • Prof. Eugeny Babichev (IJCLab, Université Paris-Saclay, France)

  • Prof. Antonio de Felice (Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics, Kyoto University, Japan)

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Vicharit Yingcharoenrat (Department of Physics, Chulalongkorn University)

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pitayuth Wongjun (IF, Naresuan University)

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khamphee Karwan (IF, Naresuan University)

Program Highlights

  • Intensive Lectures: Deep dives into theoretical frameworks by leading global experts.

  • Hands-on Tutorials: Evening sessions to solve problems and reinforce lecture concepts (Led by: North, Ratch, A, Ngung).

  • Student Research: Dedicated "Students Talk" sessions for participants to present their work.

  • Academic Excursion: A half-day trip to explore the historical and cultural landmarks of Phitsanulok.
