How to write and publish impactful publications, by Dan Csontos
With more than one million scientific papers in the medical fields being published each year, how do you stand out? In this talk, I will argue that making an impact with research publications requires not only great research but also great writing and publishing strategies. Achieving this requires understanding and employing effective techniques to craft clear, concise, accurate and compelling narratives that communicate meaning to your readers. In this talk, I will introduce one of these techniques – the concept of framing – and discuss our approach to framing your research for your target audience. I will then discuss essential publishing strategies, including what editors at high-impact-factor journals look for, how to choose a suitable journal and how to navigate editorial processes. These strategies will help minimize the time and effort you need from submission to publication so that the community can peruse the results of your research as soon as possible.
