Description
Majority of galaxies live in the group environment, which serve as an intermediate galaxy environment between the field and the cluster, making the investigation of the processes involved vital for understanding galaxy evolution. We present MeerKAT observations of the Grus quartet as part of the MeerChoirs survey. The Grus quartet consists of four large spiral galaxies, NGC 7552, NGC 7582, NGC 7590 and NGC 7599. The HI data reveals a wealth of interaction between the group members, showing evidence for displaced HI and tidal interactions. Most interestingly, two of these galaxies, NGC 7552 and NGC 7582, exhibit prominent HI absorption against their nuclear regions. NGC 7552 hosts a circumnuclear star-forming ring while NGC 7582 hosts an AGN extensively studied across different wavelengths. We find evidence for both inflowing and outflowing HI in both of these galaxies, revealing the presence of cold gas entrained in the outflows. This adds an extra layer of complexity governing the relative importance of internal factors, such as feedback, and external factors, such as interactions between galaxies, in shaping the morphology in HI in a group environment.
