Travel Information

Getting to Cape Town

The closest airport to the conference venue is Cape Town International Airport (CPT), located approximately 15–20 minutes by road from the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) in the suburb of Observatory.

Flight Arrangements

  • SA-GAMMA Members: All flight arrangements must be managed directly through your respective research groups. Each group is responsible for booking their own flights via SA-GAMMA channels. If you require assistance or have questions regarding this process, please contact the local organising committee at capp@uj.ac.za.

  • Non-SA-GAMMA Members: Delegates not affiliated with SA-GAMMA are responsible for purchasing and managing their own travel and accommodation for the duration of the conference.

Local Transportation

Cape Town offers convenient options for getting around the city. Uber is widely available throughout Cape Town and is a highly recommended, safe, and reliable method for travelling between the airport, your accommodation, and the SAAO. You can request rides 24/7 directly through the Uber app, which provides upfront pricing and built-in safety features.

Other alternatives include metered taxis and various private airport shuttle services, which can be booked in advance of your arrival.
