Description

Tensor Networks are a powerful framework for simulating quantum many-body systems while keeping the growth of entanglement under computational control, and as such are a testbed for ideas about how QFT may ultimately be encoded in quantum computers. In this talk, I will describe how Tree Tensor Networks can be adapted to real time Hamiltonian simulation of quantum field theory, with particular emphasis on theories containing multiple interacting scalar fields. After introducing Tree Tensor Networks and their relation to renormalisation, I will focus on field-space truncation and tensor-network representation of the Hamiltonian. I will discuss initial state preparation (i.e. preparation and characterisation of the interacting QFT vacuum), followed by real-time simulations of wave-packet scattering and resonant particle production, tunnelling and other intrinsically non-perturbative phenomena. These examples illustrate how tensor networks can provide a complementary perspective on quantum field dynamics in regimes that are difficult to access using conventional perturbative techniques.
