Description

Topological terms are notoriously difficult to study with standard Monte Carlo methods due to the sign problem. I review recent progress using sign-problem-free Hamiltonian approaches, including exact diagonalization, tensor networks, and quantum computing, applied to topological terms in (1+1)D, (2+1)D, and (3+1)D lattice gauge theories, both Abelian and non-Abelian. I focus in particular on the first study of the $\theta$-term in (3+1)D non-Abelian SU(2) Yang-Mills theory, and close with an outlook on reaching larger volumes and, eventually, SU(3) gauge theory.
