Description

Measuring the number of final-state protons in neutrino-nucleus scattering events provides insight into the underlying interaction dynamics, ranging from quasi-elastic scattering on individual nucleons to multinucleon knockout processes and intranuclear rescattering. Over the years, MicroBooNE has carried out a broad program of cross section measurements for charged-current muon neutrino interactions on argon in final states with no pions and different proton multiplicities. We report results for single-proton, two-proton, and higher-multiplicity topologies, examining multi-differential distributions in both lepton and hadron kinematics, including proton momenta, angular correlations, and transverse kinematic imbalance observables. These measurements illustrate how different nuclear effects populate specific regions of multiplicity and phase space. Comparisons with neutrino event generators provide tests of current models for multinucleon dynamics and final state interactions in argon, informing the physics program of next-generation oscillation experiments such as the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment.
