Getting to UCI

Overview

Irvine is located approximately 45 miles south of Los Angeles and about 90 miles north of San Diego, making it a central point in Southern California. It is situated in Orange County, which is part of the Greater Los Angeles area.

By plane

UC Irvine is located in Orange County, California, about 4 miles from Orange County Santa Ana Airport (SNA). SNA also connects to Canada and Mexico. A taxi or ride app service from SNA to the campus costs about $20-30. Some hotels are in walking distance from the airport and some offer shuttles.

The conference is located about 50 miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Taxi cost about $140 or more from LAX to UC Irvine (one way), while ride app services cost approximately $90 or more.

International airfares to SNA and LAX are often similar, though many more direct flights are available to LAX.

A shuttle ride from LAX can, depending on the traffic, take more than 2 hours (including the waiting time at the terminal). It is recommended to book shuttles in advance.

By car

If you have to come by car, you can find driving directions and freeway maps at the UCI campus maps page. For the parking rates see this site.

The UCI Physics department visitor webpage has additional information, maps, and photos to help you find your way.
