Description

Transverse bunched-beam coherent direct space-charge modes are usually discussed within the framework of the Air-Bag bunch in a Square potential well (ABS) model. However, a key limitation of this model is that it does not account for the radial modes that naturally arise in realistic longitudinal distribution functions. In fact, these transverse coherent direct space-charge modes were already derived analytically by Blaskiewicz in his seminal 1998 paper for both Boxcar and Gaussian line densities. Possible typographical errors in the published formulae may explain why, to the author’s knowledge, these modes have not been identified or discussed previously. In this contribution, we will provide a detailed analysis of the origin and properties of these modes and assess them against available benchmark results.
