Public transport in the metropolitan area of Helsinki:

The metropolitan area of Helsinki is divided into four zones identified by letters A, B, C and D, spreading out from the centre of Helsinki. Public transport across this area is mostly offered by the company HSL. The fares for HSL transport depend on the zone covered by the ticket. Ticket fares, the metropolitan zones and routes to destination can be checked directly on the HSL website (https://www.hsl.fi/en) and app.

How to purchase a ticket:

  • Ticket machine: There should be ticket machines at the major tram, metro and bus stops. The airport train station has a ticket machine.

Helsinki city centre from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport:

Helsinki-Vantaa airport is in zone C; to reach the city centre and Kumpula you need an ABC ticket.

  • Via train: There are only two train lines that go through the airport, line I and line P. Both go from the airport to Helsinki city centre, but via different routes. Travel time is about 30 minutes.
  • Via bus: The bus line 600 operates between the city centre and the airport. Travel time is about 40 minutes.
  • Taxi: Most taxi services have a flat fare for the connection Vantaa airport - Helsinki city centre at around 35-40EUR. The airport has a taxi station outside the Arrivals hall, where lanes 1-3 are operated by companies that have an agreement with the airport company Finavia.
