David H. Reitze, the Executive Director of the LIGO will be delivering the Public Lecture on December 8, 2023. The title of his lecture is
"The Gravitational-Wave Revolution: Observing Some Of The Most Cataclysmic Events In The Universe With The Most Precise Detectors Ever Constructed"
About the Speaker
David H. Reitze is an Executive Director of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO), Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology. He also holds a concurrent position as a Research Professor at the California Institute of Technology. He had served as the Spokesperson of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC), a group of 1500 scientists and engineers carrying out the LIGO science program during 2007-2011.
His primary research includes gravitational-wave astrophysics, investigations of thermal effects in interferometers, development of high-power optical components, as well as the design, construction, and operation of the LIGO interferometers located in Hanford, WA and Livingston, LA. Since 2012, he has worked very closely with the Indian gravitational-wave community to bring the LIGO Aundha Observatory to India.
