Description

Welcome to the homepage of the 2023 edition of the  'Asymptotic Safety meets Particle Physics and Friends' workshop, taking place on Dec 18th - 21st at DESY, Hamburg.

The aim of this informal workshop is to bring together QFT practitioners from different areas to discuss new ideas, progress, and challenges at the interface between formal theory and model building and data. Topics to be covered range from critical phenomena,  particle physics, condensed matter, gravity, to new directions in model building and LHC phenomenology, and more. This is the 10th event of this kind. The previous workshop is found here.

There is no conference fee! Registration is now open for invited participants, with further information to follow shortly.

We have reserved 60 rooms at the DESY hostel, information on how to book the rooms will follow.

The workshop will take place "Im Quantenfeld" at the Albert Einstein Hall, DESY, Hamburg. The building is marked as 28c in sector 1c on the DESY map. Please head to the seminar room on the second floor.

The conference dinner will take place Tuesday 19:00 at Dübelsbrücker Kajüt, Elbchaussee 303, 22605 Hamburg. To get there, take bus line 1 outside DESY main entrance towards “Rissen” or “Sieversstücken”. Exit at “Elbe-Einkaufzentrum” and take the bus line 21 to Teufelsbrück.

The workshop is also supported by the MERCUR project to bring together theoretical particle and solid state physics.

QCD, Dilaton and Infrared Fixed Points 45m

I will review the standard conformal window picture and
explore the possibility that the chirally broken phase (QCD)
is amenable to an (non-perturbative) infrared fixed point interpretation.
I will show that these assumptions lead to a consistent picture
and comment on N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories.
In a second part I will further speculate on the presence of a dilaton,
and outline some of its attractive features.
        1) compatibility of conformality with hadron masses
        2) a solution to the Goldstone improvement problem
        3) investigate the dilaton candidate of QCD, the sigma/f0(500) meson
At last I will give an outlook of how the Higgs can be interpreted as
a dilaton in this context and what the open problems are.
