Description
Non-Abelian gauge theories are a main frontier of current quantum simulation with relevance to high-energy physics. In this talk, I will argue why the theories with discrete dihedral gauge symmetries are ideal candidates for near-term devices: These theories fit nicely to the resources available in current qudit quantum hardware such as based on trapped ions. In the recent past, we have spent considerable effort to explore the physics of these dihedral gauge theories, where we find extremely rich phenomenology, from the formation of gluelumps to tunable thermalization dynamics and to the existence of scar states.
