Venue and travel

The training school is held in the Sint-Lucas room of Monasterium Poortackere. The venue is an old, converted monastery in the heart of Gent. You can visit their website for more information.

Monday evening, March 2 at 18:30, a welcome reception is offered in the knight's hall of the Gravensteen, the medieval castle of Gent.

Getting there ...

by air:

International flights arrive either in Brussels Airport or in Brussels South Charleroi Airport.

Brussels Airport is located in Zaventem, very close to Brussels. There is a train station at the airport. You can take a train to Brussels Midi Station, from where you can take a connecting train to Gent Sint-Pieters station. Every train going from Brussels to the coast (with final destinations Oostende, Brugge, Blankenberge, ...) has Gent Sint-Pieters as the first stop. Very convenient.

Brussels South Charleroi mostly hosts low-cost airlines. This airport is actually located in Charleroi, 50 km south of Brussels. It offers a shuttle bus connection to Brussels (~1 hour travel time), from where you can connect to Gent. Less convenient.

by public transport:

Monasterium Poortackere can easily be reached from Gent Sint-Pieters train station by trams T1 and T3. Tram stop Gent Oude Houtlei is 400m away from the venue.

by car:

The Gent city centre is a pedestrian zone, and cars are not allowed to drive there. In order to improve air quality, the area within the R40 ring road is a low-emission zone (LEZ). The venue is just outside the pedestrian zone but inside the LEZ.

Please, check whether your car is allowed in the LEZ before coming to Gent.

Driving inside Gent, a historic city with many narrow one-way streets, is a unique experience. Use a navigation map such as Google Maps to plan your route and to steer clear of the pedestrian zone.

Housing ...

The Monasterium has its own hotel very nearby, called the Hotel de Flandre. If you book a room there, you can use the reduction code EDUGAIA.

As you see on this map, most of the hotels in Gent are to the north-east of the venue because that is where the city centre is.

Gent is not a large city, so you can easily get around on foot. It is also a very bike-friendly city. A routeplanner for the Tram can be found here.
