Description

A method has been developed to match large three-dimensional Coulomb crystals into existing accelerators. These crystals exist at the space charge limit and have close to zero emittance. Simulations show bunch temperatures below 0.03 Kelvin persisting for 5500 turns in the BNL Booster lattice with modified magnet settings. This optics solution exploits the 'vortex effect' first seen in isochronous cyclotrons and the bunch rotates by a fractional number of turns each turn in the machine. It also stays bunched without RF being applied.
