In conventional thermodynamic systems, supercritical behavior in systems such as van der Waals fluids and water is now under active study both theoretically and experimentally. Although liquids and gases become indistinguishable Beyond the critical point, forming a single fluid phase, it is possible to identify liquid-like' andgas-like' behaviour in the supercritical regime. Here I...

In the last decades, black hole solutions with non-standard topologies or non-standard asymptotic behaviour have gained considerable attention. An early example of this are the periodic static solutions in 3+1 dimensions, where infinitely many coaxial, equidistant, identical black holes are stacked in an array along the axis. Each solution is completely characterized by the area $A$ of the...

We compute the canonical (brick-wall) entropy of Hawking radiation in a quantum black hole whose exterior geometry, in the strong field region, is approximated, to first order in a small quadrupole parameter, by the static q-metric, which is an exact vacuum solution of the Einstein equations. Counting near horizon quasinormal modes shows that a modest quadrupolar deformation self-regularizes...

We establish the existence of Skyrmion-type solitons that have a Z_N topological quantum number. Thus, a configuration of N such Skyrmions have a topological quantum number that is equivalent to zero. It is reasonable to accord a fractional topological charge to such solitons, 1/N. Interacting with chiral fermions, the induced fermion number on these solitons will indeed be 1/N. We show...

A gravitational instanton is a four-dimensional, complete Ricci flat manifold with prescribed asymptotic behaviour (e.g. asymptotically locally flat). They arise in general relativity as saddle points of the Euclidean gravitational path integral. We will describe a new set of a mass comparison theorems for manifolds with non-negative scalar curvature. Their mass is bounded below the mass of a...

We present quantum heat machines using a diatomic molecule modelled by a q-deformed Morse potential as a working medium. We analyze the effect of the deformation parameter and other potential parameters on the work output and efficiency of the quantum Otto and quantum Carnot heat cycles. Furthermore, we derive the analytical expressions of work and efficiency as a function of these parameters....
