Description

Alkali antimonide semiconductor photocathodes are widely used as electron sources for accelerator applications. The photocathode properties such as crystallinity, stoichiometry, and surface morphology fundamentally influence performance metrics like quantum efficiency (QE), thermal emittance, and response time. Recent studies demonstrate that the Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) technique can provide a better control of stoichiometry and can be used to achieve atomically smooth, high-QE alkali antimonide films. Different methods of controlled growth towards desired stoichiometry are also available in literature. The purpose of this work is to implement Reflection High Energy Electron Diffraction (RHEED) assisted PLD to grow alkali antimonide photocathodes with enhanced control of material growth and film quality.
