Kruger National Park
Just 35km (30min drive by car) from the Wits Rural Facility (WRF) is the Kruger National Park, South Africa’s largest national park, covering nearly 20,000 square kilometers. Located in Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces, it borders Mozambique to the east and Zimbabwe to the north.
The Kruger National Park is home to the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros. You can also see other animals like cheetahs and giraffes, as well as a variety of species including insects, birds, frogs, and nocturnal creatures like owls and spring hares. Always have your camera ready - you never know what you'll spot!

The nearest gate to Hoedspruit is Orpen Gate (25min drive by car). It's not only your entry point into the park but also where you'll pay your entrance fees. Don't forget to bring your passport or ID for verification.

The Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Centre is 24km (22min drive by car) from the WRF. Located at the foot of the North Eastern Lowveld Drakensberg mountain range in South Africa's Limpopo Province, the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is renowned for its work in healing and caring for abandoned, injured, and poisoned wildlife. The centre receives wild animals from all across South Africa for the purpose of reintroduction into their natural habitats. Visitors at the centre have the opportunity to engage with a variety of rehabilitated creatures, including raptors, vultures, lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, honey badgers, and rescued rhinos.
