Wits Rural Facility

The Wits Rural Facility (WRF), a rural campus of the University of the Witwatersrand, was established in 1989 to address development challenges created by the Apartheid homeland system. Located in the central lowveld of Limpopo Province, South Africa, it supports research, student training, and community engagement. The facility, which includes visitor accommodation, seminar and conference facilities, a restaurant, staff housing, offices, and laboratory space, is situated on a 350-hectare bushveld estate owned by Wits University.
Location and Directions
The Wits Rural Facility (WRF) is situated in the far north-east of South Africa, in the central lowveld of Limpopo Province. It’s close to the Kruger National Park and the border with Mpumalanga Province with the closest town being Hoedspruit. The distance from Johannesburg to the WRF is approximately 480 kilometers (about 6 hours by car).
