Getting to Khon Kaen
Khon Kaen is well connected to the rest of Thailand by air, rail, and road.
- By air: Khon Kaen International Airport (IATA: KKC) has frequent daily domestic flights to and from Bangkok (both Suvarnabhumi/BKK and Don Mueang/DMK), with a flight time of about one hour. Most international participants will fly into Bangkok and connect to a domestic flight to Khon Kaen.
- By train: The State Railway of Thailand operates daily services between Bangkok and Khon Kaen (journey time approximately 8 hours; overnight sleeper trains are available). Trains arrive at Khon Kaen Railway Station in the city centre.
- By bus: Long-distance and inter-provincial coaches arrive at Khon Kaen Bus Terminal 3 (the Provincial Transport Station, "Bor Kor Sor 3"), located on the southern ring road outside the city centre.
From the airport / station to the venue
The most convenient and reliable way to reach the venue is by ride-hailing app (Grab or Bolt) or by metered taxi. Please note that Uber does not operate in Thailand; Grab and Bolt are the local equivalents and both serve Khon Kaen. We recommend installing one of these apps before you arrive.

Fares are approximate and vary with traffic and demand. Both Grab and Bolt show a fixed price before you confirm the ride, so no negotiation is required.
Transport options in detail
- Ride-hailing apps (recommended): Grab and Bolt both operate in Khon Kaen. You set your pick-up and drop-off points in the app, see the fare in advance, and pay by card or cash. Enter "Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University" as your destination, or use the coordinates above.
- Metered taxi: Taxis are available at the airport, the railway station, and Bus Terminal 3. Please ask the driver to use the meter, or agree on the fare before departure.
- Airport bus: A local Khon Kaen City Bus connects the airport with Khon Kaen University at a low fare (around 30–40 THB). It is an economical option, but runs only a few times per day, so a taxi or ride-hailing app is more practical for most arrivals.
- Songthaew (shared pick-up truck): The cheapest way to move around the city (around 10–15 THB per trip), with several fixed routes serving the university. Routes are not signposted in English, so this option is best suited to participants comfortable navigating local transport.
