UK DRD3 Instrumentation Summer School 2026
Welcome to the second UK DRD3 Instrumentation Summer School! The school will be held over two weeks in August 2026 (10th - 21st) at Lady Margaret Hall, the University of Oxford
The school serves as a follow-on to the Advanced UK Instrumentation Training programme, and will feature two weeks of tutorials and hands-on exercises covering:
- Device simulation in TCAD
- Electronics design and simulation
- Electrical characterisation of silicon detectors
- Radiation detection with silicon detectors
Participants will step through the life cycle of PiN and LGAD sensors, from simulations of their fabrication and expected electrical response, to the design and characterisation of their readout electronics, to measurements in the lab of their performance
Evening activities are also planned, including talks by industrial partners on career opportunities outside of academia, distinguished academics on navigating a path through academia, and tips on engaging the broader public about fundamental research
Application deadline: May 29, 13:00 BST
Registration fee: £1950. This covers the cost of accommodation and food during the school, along with social events and coffee breaks. It is anticipated to accept a maximum of 24 participants
Scholarships: A few places are expected to be funded from external sources to enable the participation of outstanding applicants, particularly from groups who would otherwise be unable to provide support. Those awarded a scholarship will not need to pay the registration fee, and will be notified in advance
