Getting to Zurich

Zurich is well connected by plane and train.
By Plane: There are about  200 direct flight connections worldwide.
By Train:
Up to 4h: Milano, Mainz, Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Geneva, Paris, München
Up to 8h:  Hamburg, Berlin, Rome, London (also night trains)

Zurich also hosts one of the world's best public transportation system. All building, trams, trains etc wheelchair accessible

Airport transfer

The quickest way from the airport to the city centre is by train or by tram line 10. Both depart directly outside the main terminal; follow the signs for tram and bus. Take tram line 10 (red) towards Zürich Bahnhofplatz/HB.

A one‑way 2nd‑class ticket costs CHF 6.80 for the required three zones. Zone 110 covers the city and counts as two zones, and the airport lies in Zone 121. A day pass for all zones after 9 am, valid for 24 hours, is CHF 13.50. On other days, a Zone‑110 day pass (CHF 9.60) is usually all you need.

Public transport

Public transport is by far the fastest and most convenient way to get around Zurich. Car or taxi travel tends to be slower, more expensive and  more cumbersome. Public transportation tickets are valid on all trams, trains, buses, boats and funiculars within the network.

Tickets are available from vending machines at any tram stop, in the ZVV app (Zurich public transport) or in the SBB app (Swiss railways).  The ZVV check‑in option lets you check in before boarding and check out at the end; the system tracks your journey by GPS and charges the cheapest possible fare automatically at the end of the day.

Venturing beyound Zurich

You can explore all of Switzerland by train, in particular from Zürich. often more convenient and scenic than by car. If you are planning to travel beyond Zürich, consider the Saver Day Pass. These are one-day tickets with unlimited travel across Switzerland on trains, buses, boats and city transport (trams, metro, etc.). The earlier you book, the cheaper it is, with prices starting from CHF 52 per person or CHF 29 with a Swiss Half Fare Card.

Recommendable day trips from Zürich are Lucerne, Bern, Mount Rigi (the Royal Rigi Tour), Pilatus, Tiltis, Stanserhorn, the Five Lake Hike etc. Longer one day trips (or more relaxed with one night stay) are Lauterbrunnen & Grindelwald (72 waterfalls in the valley!), Lugano, Zermatt. Even farther are e.g. taking the Golden Pass Express from Lucerne to Geneva via Lausanne. These are just some examples, there are far more things to do.
