Description

Electron-electron interactions beyond the Standard Model are promising candidates for dark matter and new sources of parity violation. We present a general procedure for extracting new bounds on coupling strengths with atomic structure calculations and do so for certain parity-odd cases. Our approach includes dominant many-body effects and is valid for any parity or mediator mass. Constraints are then extracted by comparing calculations with experimental measurements, which in our case consist of atomic electric dipole moments and parity non-conserving (PNC) transitions. The most significant results arise in the vector-axial vector case, where comparison with the $6s$-$7s$ PNC transition in caesium yields bounds on new physics in a previously unconstrained region of mediator masses.
