Description
My focus is a general spin Hamiltonian for so-called orthochromites $R$CrO$_3$ ($R$ = rare earth, Sc, and Y). The $R$CrO$_3$ has received much interest as an electrode material, an interconnector for solid-state fuel cells, and a magnetocaloric effect for refrigeration. However, there is little understanding because of the availability of large single-crystal samples. We successfully obtained large single-crystal samples of $R$CrO$_3$.
I will present a series of inelastic neutron scattering experiments of orthochromites, such as LaCrO$_3$, ErCrO$_3$, HoCrO$_3$, and LuCrO$_3$. We have performed a number of neutron scattering experiments both in Japan and in Australia. To describe the magnetic excitations, I am trying to find a general spin Hamiltonian that consists of exchange interactions between Cr$^{3+}$, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions (DMIs), single-ion anisotropic interactions, exchange interactions between Cr$^{3+}$-$R^{3+}$, crystal field excitations, hyperfine field excitations from $R^{3+}$, and so on. I will describe the general overview of magnetic excitations from μeV to 100 meV in $R$CrO$_3$ series.
