Description
Being able to communicate effectively is essential to be a successful scientist. If you can’t communicate what you did, you may as well not have done it. Effective science communication is also critical to bridge the ever-growing divide between those that “do” science and those that do not. Combatting the various echo chambers of anti-science is more important than ever, yet educational institutions do not typically focus on providing public-facing communication skills. We developed a faculty-wide science communication course to help graduate students learn how to communicate with folks outside their field of study, including the public. In this presentation, we review the course outline and goals, giving a taste of our approach in teaching these important (and transferrable) skills.
