DCMP Best Presentation Award for Young Researchers (with Travel Award)
To be eligible for a DCMP award, you must be a current PhD student, post-doctoral fellow or assistant professor who is below 40 years old on January 1st 2026.
To apply for the award, please fill out the application form (link). Applications are open from 15th December 2025 until 15th January 2026.
Both oral presentations and poster presentations will be considered.
The award consists of a certificate and a travel bursary in the range of $USD200 -- USD250. Approximately ten prizes will be awarded.
Women in Condensed Matter Physics Award
Eligibility: Australian-based women who are either current Honours or PhD students or early-career researchers <5 years post-PhD.
To support women Honours/PhD students and early-career researchers (ECRs) working in condensed matter physics in Australia, we are pleased to offer a limited number of awards to support attendance at the Wagga–AC2MP 2026, condensed matter physics meeting. This meeting will take place at the Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, 9-13 February 2026.
Each scholarship is intended to recognise excellence and potential. The support will cover full residential registration (including accommodation in on-site cottages with shared bathroom and all meals), subject to the overall funding limit.
This initiative is supported through funding from the ARC Georgina Sweet Australian Laureate Fellowship scheme (total pool: AUD $6,000). We invite eligible applicants to apply for support to attend, present their work, expand their professional networks, and engage with the AIP and AAPPS Condensed Matter Physics community.
Eligibility
- Be either a PhD student, or an early-career researcher (ECR) less than 5 years post-PhD (career interruptions will be considered).
- This award is only for women who currently live in and study/work in Australia.
- Be a current member of the Australian Institute of Physics (AIP). (PhD students: membership is only $50.)
- Be working in condensed matter physics or a closely related area.
- Submit an abstract (oral or poster) to Wagga–AC2MP 2026.
Application Requirements
Please submit a single PDF containing the following:
1. Applicant details including: name, current position (HDR, postdoc, etc.), supervisor, university/organisation; year of PhD award (for ECRs) or year of enrolment (for students); confirmation of AIP membership; and contact details (email, phone).
2. Conference abstract, including the title and full author list, as submitted to the conference. Include the preferred presentation type (oral or poster)
3. Curriculum vitae (max. 2 pages), including a brief publication list and any invited talks, prizes, or relevant service.
Offer
- Up to 6 scholarships will be awarded.
Each successful applicant will receive full residential registration (including accommodation in on-site cottages (shared bathroom) and all meals) for the Wagga–AC2MP 2026 meeting.
The distribution of support between students and ECRs will be decided by the selection panel based on the applicant pool.
Expectations of Awardees
- Attend and present their work at the conference.
- Provide a brief post-conference report (approx. 1 page with a photo) describing their experience and the impact of the support.
- Consider ongoing engagement with the DCMP–AAPPS and AIP condensed matter community (e.g. mailing lists, future events).

Applicants will be assessed by a selection committee comprising senior condensed matter physicists and representatives of the AIP and DCMP–AAPPS community. We strongly encourage applications from diverse backgrounds and institutions across Australia.
Australian Institute of Physics Student Travel Grant
Student Financial Members of the Australian Institute of Physics (AIP) are invited to apply for financial support for conference attendance. They must have already been a member of the AIP for six months prior to applying for a grant. Additional eligibility criteria and application form can be found here. Applications for this award are handled centrally by the Australian Institute of Physics.
