Venue:
The workshop will happen at the Physics Department of the University of Coimbra, Rua Larga, Coimbra - Portugal. Directions to reach the Physics Department are available here.
Travelling to Coimbra:
Portugal has two major international airports that are close to Coimbra namely Lisboa/Lisbon (~ 200 Km) and Porto/Oporto (~100 Km). From either airport you can use the subway (running every 5-10 min in Lisboa and every ~ 15 min in Porto) to the railway stations of Oriente (Lisboa; 5-10 min) or Campanhã (Porto; ~ 40 min). There are fast trains (AP or IC) to Coimbra that take about 1h35 to 1h50 from Lisboa or 1h from Porto. Timetables can be seen here.
Metro (see Porto subway map here) tickets could be purchased at the respective stations (buy two trips in case you plan to use the same means for the return journey) and keep the ticket (later you can also top it up).
Trains run most of the day time about every hour, and this until about 20h00. The last train from Lisboa is an IC that leaves Oriente at 21h39 and takes two hours to Coimbra. The last train from Oporto is an AP that leaves Campanha at 20h47 and takes one hour to Coimbra.
Trains tickets may easily be purchased at https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/buy-tickets (Advanced purchase may profit from a reasonable discount.)
From the Coimbra railway station (Coimbra B) to the Hotel or the Department of Physics (see map here) a taxi (less than 10€) is the best option.
Accommodation:
There are several hotels located near the University of Coimbra. Please, book your accommodation. Hotel Botânico is 10 min walking from the Physics Department and is up hill. Downtown there are number of hotels Hotel Astória or a bit far away Hotel Vila Galé to name a few.
Take a look at the list of restaurants, cafés, and bars.
Lunch:
Although we will provide the coffee breaks, the lunches and dinners are not organised but there are a number of places near the Physics Department and nearby. Further information will be provided on arrival.
Social events:
We plan to organize a dinner will all participants and will try to organize a Fado de Coimbra event.
