Traveling to Karlsruhe
Plane
The nearest airports for long-distance visitors are Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden.
- Frankfurt
This is probably the most convenient option. The long-distance train station is in close proximity of the airport. Once you get there, take a train to Karlsruhe (approximately one hour, hourly, every other hour with change in Mannheim). - Stuttgart
Take local train S2 or S3 to Stuttgart main station, then change to a train to Karlsruhe. - Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (Baden-Airpark)
This airport is mostly served by inner-European low-cost carriers. The buses available at Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport will take you to the train stations of Rastatt or Baden-Baden where you will find trains leaving to Karlsruhe. The Baden-Airpark-Express line will take you to Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof.
Train
Karlsruhe main station can be reached via ICE from many other train stations in Germany/Europe. There is also a direct connection to Frankfurt am Main Airport (takes about 1 hour). The train from Geneva takes about 4:40 h.
Car
Karlsruhe is also easily reachable by car, with highways A5 and A8 just outside the city. Parking might be problematic though, as the campus is close to the city center.
Traveling in Karlsruhe
From Karlsruhe main station you can reach KIT Campus South via tram. The trams leave outside the main station building ("Bahnhofsvorplatz"). You can take any of the following trams:
