The US HL-LHC Accelerator Upgrade Project has started production of the MQXFA Quadrupoles to be used in the Q1/Q3 inner triplet magnetic elements of the High Luminosity LHC. These units represent the first Nb3Sn magnets to be installed in a high energy collider. The first part of the presentation will be dedicated to the physics of superconducting accelerator magnets focusing on the development of the Nb3Sn technology over the past 20 years. The second part of the presentation will focus on the fabrication and test of the low beta quadrupoles for the HL-LHC, which are relevant to future use of Nb3Sn magnets in high energy accelerators
Connections will begin at 12:30 with the seminar beginning at 13:00. Password for Zoom is NielsBohr.
