Description

This thesis project focuses on the development of functionalized, photoactive hybrid nanofibers for potential application in next-generation photovoltaic technologies. The research investigates the incorporation of photoactive organic materials, particularly MDMO-PPV:PCBM, and natural pigments such as chlorophyll and curcumin into biopolymer matrices to produce composite nanofibers by electrospinning.
The experimental work involves the preparation of polymeric solutions containing the selected photoactive materials, followed by electrospinning to obtain functionalized nanofiber mats. The influence of the preparation and electrospinning conditions on the resulting fiber morphology is being investigated. Particular attention is given to chlorophyll as a naturally derived photoactive material, while a second photoactive material is currently under development and characterization.
The morphology of the developed nanofibers is being evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The experimental preparation process and the current SEM characterization will be discussed as part of the ongoing research.
Overall, the project aims to contribute to the development of flexible, biocompatible, and potentially sustainable solar-active nanofiber mats with potential applications in flexible and wearable photovoltaic technologies.
