Track: Sustainability and the Future

The paper examines the application of digital tools in Nigeria's electoral process as a way to promote good governance. The objective of the paper is to determine the adequacy of the use of technology to minimize human interference in the electoral process, and to examine the relationship between a credible electoral process and good governance in Nigeria. It made use of a qualitative method, obtaining secondary data to generate the information required for the study. Findings revealed that while digital tools have been deployed in Nigeria's electoral cycles since 1999, this has not met the acceptable global standard necessary to promote good governance. The study also found that many countries which have improved on the deployment of digital tools have significantly improved good governance to the benefit of their citizens. The paper recommends a more elaborate and strategic deployment of digital tools through constitutional reforms to promote inclusive, efficient, and legitimate democratic governance in Nigeria.
