Track: Sustainability and the Future

This research examined the influence of sustainable procurement practices on the environmental performance of healthcare firms in Nigeria. It was motivated by the need to determine how integrating sustainability into procurement activities affects critical performance indicators, including financial results, operational efficiency, competitiveness, customer satisfaction, waste management, and corporate image. The findings indicate that sustainable procurement practices exert a strong positive effect on environmental performance. Improvements in cost efficiency, revenue generation, and overall profitability were linked to effective supplier engagement, increased product appeal, and long-term savings. Environmental performance also improved significantly, as sustainable sourcing enhanced process efficiency and strengthened supply chain coordination. Organizations reported better time management and greater supplier reliability, resulting in fewer delays and disruptions. Moreover, the adoption of sustainable procurement strategies contributed to competitive advantage by enabling firms to differentiate themselves in the marketplace and attract new customers. Customer satisfaction and loyalty were also positively influenced, as sustainability initiatives helped build trust and foster long-term relationships. Positive customer perceptions of environmentally responsible practices further enhanced retention rates. In addition, notable progress was observed in waste reduction and resource utilization. Companies improved their management of raw materials and reduced waste through environmentally friendly sourcing practices, thereby lowering their ecological footprint and strengthening their corporate social responsibility commitments. From a reputational standpoint, sustainable procurement enhanced the public image of firms, positioning them as responsible and forward-thinking organizations. In conclusion, the study established that sustainable procurement is vital not only for enhancing financial and operational outcomes but also for achieving competitive advantage and sustaining customer loyalty. It serves as a critical driver of long-term organizational success and relevance in the market. Consequently, the study recommends that manufacturing firms deepen the integration of sustainable procurement practices, while policymakers should provide supportive regulations and incentives to encourage wider adoption.
