Track: Inclusion, Equity and Digital Access

The development of future-ready education in Africa requires learners to acquire not only academic and digital competencies but also the values needed for peaceful coexistence in culturally diverse societies. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of Social Studies in promoting ethnic integration among Junior Secondary School students in South-South Nigeria and examine its implications for future-ready education. The study will focus on the extent to which Social Studies objectives, content, teaching methods and evaluation practices promote tolerance, respect for ethnic diversity, cooperation and social cohesion. Four research questions and four hypotheses will guide the study. A survey research design will be adopted. The population will comprise 400,572 Junior Secondary School students in the 2023/2024 academic session, from whom 13,730 students will be sampled from 50 public and 50 private schools. Data will be collected using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire validated by three experts, while reliability will be established using Cronbach's alpha. Mean, standard deviation and t-test will be used for data analysis at the 0.05 level of significance. The study is expected to provide evidence on the contribution of Social Studies to ethnic integration, inclusive citizenship and socially sustainable education. The findings will offer implications for curriculum development and teaching practices that support inclusive, cohesive and future-ready education ecosystems in Nigeria and Africa
