AbstractArtificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies are reshaping knowledge creation for learning and assessment in higher education worldwide, especially in Africa. Traditional student research assessment approaches are increasingly challenged by AI-assisted writing, automated content generation, and digital research tools. This paper argues for a shift from product-focused assessment towards approaches that value research processes, critical thinking, ethical AI use, creativity, collaboration, and authentic knowledge creation. Drawing on current perspectives on authentic assessment, digital scholarship, and AI-enabled education, the paper proposes a Future-Ready Research Assessment Framework built around five key dimensions: transparency of the research process, authentic knowledge development, ethical AI engagement, multimodal evidence of learning, and continuous feedback and reflection. The paper further highlights practical strategies such as research portfolios, oral presentations, reflective journals, AI-use declarations, peer review, and technology-supported feedback. Considering the policy, infrastructural, and institutional realities of African higher education, particularly Nigeria, the paper emphasizes the need for responsible AI integration, staff capacity development, and effective governance frameworks. It concludes that transforming research assessment is essential for developing graduates equipped with the skills, ethics, and creativity required for future academic and professional environments. Keywords: Artificial Intelligence, Authentic Assessment, Higher Education, Research Assessment, Emerging Technologies, African Education
