Track: AI, Emerging Technologies and Future Learning
The growing rate of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education presents significant opportunities for transforming practical instruction in technology education. Existing Nigerian studies have largely examined technology-enhanced teaching strategies, instructional methods, teacher AI readiness and frameworks for practical skills development, with little attention to the direct relationship between AI-driven pedagogy and practical skills acquisition among metalwork technology students. This study therefore examined artificial intelligence-driven pedagogy for enhancing practical skills acquisition among Metalwork Technology students in Nigerian Universities. To achieve the objectives of the study, four research questions and four null hypotheses guided the study. A correlational research design was adopted. The population comprised of undergraduate students of Metalwork Technology in South-south geopolitical zone, Nigeria. Multistage sampling procedure was employed to select the study participants. Data were collected using a researcher-developed instrument titled Artificial Intelligence-Driven Pedagogy and Practical Skills Acquisition Questionnaire (AIDPPSAQ). The instrument was validated by experts in Technology Education, Artificial Intelligence and Measurement and Evaluation, while reliability was established using the Cronbach Alpha method. Mean and standard deviation was used to answered the research questions, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation and multiple regression analysis tested the hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The study is expected to show whether AI-supported simulations, intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive feedback and personalized learning significantly enhance students' practical competencies in metalwork technology. The findings will provide empirical data for curriculum innovation, lecturer capacity development and policy reforms aimed at integrating AI-driven pedagogy into technical and vocational education to strengthen industry-ready skills and sustainable technological development in Nigeria.
