Abstract
The research aims to explore the dialectical relationship between the development of artificial intelligence technologies and the future of human intelligence, with a focus on the environment of Arabic language teaching in colleges in Kano State, Nigeria. The study addresses this topic through a theoretical framework that establishes key concepts and an applied approach that observes the actual situation of students. It also discusses the challenges arising from integrating AI into Arabic language instruction, represented by the duality of advantages and disadvantages. On the positive side, AI serves as a powerful assistive tool that helps improve students' linguistic skills, provides personalized and immediate learning environments that cater to individual differences, and facilitates access to digital dictionaries and linguistic resources, thereby enhancing students' academic achievement. On the other hand, concerning drawbacks and challenges emerge; there is a fear that excessive reliance on smart applications may lead to the atrophy of human intelligence, a decline in students’ critical and creative thinking skills, and total dependence on machines for text composition and creative writing. The study offers a balanced vision calling for the integration of AI with human intelligence as a supportive partner, not as a substitute that cancels out the student’s mind, with recommendations for the necessity of training students and faculty members on the safe and effective use of these technologies.
