Track: AI, Emerging Technologies and Future Learning

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies is transforming the landscape of higher education globally, creating new opportunities for innovative teaching, personalised learning, and enhanced institutional effectiveness. In Africa, however, the adoption and integration of these technologies remain uneven due to challenges related to infrastructure, digital literacy, policy implementation, and resource availability. Colleges of Education, as key institutions responsible for preparing future teachers, must adapt to these technological developments to produce graduates equipped with twenty-first-century competencies and capable of supporting future-ready learning environments. This study investigates the role of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies in enhancing future-ready learning within Colleges of Education in North-West Nigeria. Specifically, the study examines the level of awareness and utilisation of AI-driven tools and emerging technologies, identifies the competencies required by lecturers and students, explores the opportunities associated with technology-enhanced learning, and analyses the challenges hindering effective integration. The study is anchored on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Diffusion of Innovation Theory, which provide a framework for understanding technology adoption and utilisation in educational settings.A descriptive survey research design will be employed involving lecturers, administrators, and students drawn from selected Colleges of Education in North-West Nigeria. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study is expected to reveal significant potential for AI-powered educational tools, virtual learning environments, learning analytics, adaptive learning systems, and other emerging technologies to improve teaching effectiveness, learner engagement, digital skills acquisition, and institutional innovation. However, findings are also anticipated to highlight persistent barriers, including inadequate digital infrastructure, insufficient professional development opportunities, limited funding, and policy implementation gaps. The study proposes strategic measures for strengthening digital capacity, enhancing AI competencies among educators, promoting technology-enabled pedagogies, and fostering institutional readiness for future learning. The findings will contribute to the growing discourse on digital transformation in African higher education and provide evidence-based recommendations for policymakers, educational leaders, and development partners seeking to bridge the digital divide and build resilient, inclusive, and future-ready higher education systems. Keywords: Artificial Intelligence, Emerging Technologies, Future-Ready Learning, Higher Education, Colleges of Education, Digital Transformation, North-West Nigeria, Africa.
