Track: AI, Emerging Technologies and Future Learning

This paper examines the intersection of AI and economics education in Nigeria, exploring the pedagogical, technological, and structural dimensions of this evolving relationship. It investigates how AI is transforming the teaching of economic theories, quantitative reasoning, and policy simulation. The paper presents comparative insights from institutions in Nigeria, that have adopted AI-driven platforms to enhance curriculum delivery, learner engagement, and data-driven instruction in economics education. It identifies multiple challenges, including digital inequality, limited teacher capacity and weak institutional frameworks for AI integration. The paper proposes a set of strategic policy and pedagogical recommendations: investment in open-source and locally developed AI tools, capacity-building for economics educators in digital pedagogy and institutional frameworks for inclusive and accountable AI governance in education. The paper concludes that, while significant obstacles persist, the thoughtful integration of AI into economics education can serve as a catalyst for pedagogical innovation, critical economic thinking, and inclusive educational development.
