Abstract
This study investigated the challenges of integrating emerging technologies in curriculum implementation at the College of Education, Gindiri, Plateau State, Nigeria. The rapid evolution of emerging technologies presents both opportunities and significant hurdles for higher education institutions, particularly teacher training colleges, in effectively embedding these tools into their teaching and learning processes. The primary objectives were to identify the specific emerging technologies available or desired, ascertain the perceived challenges faced by educators and students, and determine the extent to which these technologies are currently integrated. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The population comprised educators at the College, with a sample selected via stratified random sampling. Data was collected using a 4-point Likert scale structured questionnaire and analyzed using simple percentages. Key findings indicate a significant lack of adequate infrastructure, including reliable power supply and internet connectivity, as the most pressing challenge. Other major challenges include insufficient funding for technology acquisition and maintenance, a deficit in requisite technical skills and continuous training for educators, and resistance to change or negative attitudes towards technology adoption. While some technologies like basic computing and projectors are used, the integration of advanced emerging technologies (VR, AR, AI) is minimal. Recommendations include substantial government and institutional investment in infrastructure and funding, comprehensive and continuous professional development for educators, and the development of clear institutional policies to guide technology integration.
