Abstract
Poor teaching classroom practices are ineffective classroom practices that restrict students to passive learning, limited critical thinking and limited meaningful learning experiences. Literature tells that educational technologies innovative teaching techniques aid motivation, engagement and academic performance of learners. This research aims to ascertain the influence of teachers' perception of artificial intelligence and innovative classroom practices in public secondary schools in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria. Two hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted correlation research design and the population of the study consist of 148 teachers and all the 587 SS 2 students in 2025/2026 session. Accidental sampling and purposive sampling techniques were used for the study to select 150 teachers and 300 students that constituted the sample. A well validated ‘Teachers' Perception of Artificial Intelligence Questionnaire (TPAIQ) and Teaching Innovative Classroom Practices Questionnaire (TICPQ)’ were used to collect the required data. Simple Linear Regression was the statistical tools used for analysis of data collected. The result of the analysis revealed that there is a significant influence of teachers' perceived usefulness and teachers' attitude toward AI on teachers' innovative classroom practices in public secondary schools. Sequel to the findings of this study, it was recommended, among others that school administrators and education authorities should arrange regular training, workshops, and capacity building initiatives on the use of AI in education, to help raise the awareness of teachers around its usefulness and build their confidence to use AI in their classes.
