This paper examines how AI tools such as Natural Language Processing, intelligent tutoring systems, and speech recognition reshape language acquisition in multilingual, resource-constrained environments in Nigeria. It examines the role AI plays in indigenous language revitalization, teacher support, and curriculum enhancement, and highlights such associated challenges as gaps in digital infrastructure, linguistic diversity, and the need for culturally relevant AI models in the country. The paper asserts that in an era characterized by global strive to close educational and technological gaps, the integration of AI in language education in Nigeria offers transformative pathways for rethinking and realigning teacher education for optimal lesson delivery. It advocates for a context-aware approach that empowers teachers with AI-based pedagogical tools adaptable to local needs. It concludes that with strategic policies and investment in local AI development by stakeholders, language education in Nigeria can significantly improve to reflect and preserve its vast linguistic heritage.
