Track: AI, Emerging Technologies and Future Learning

This research investigates the integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools into Project-Based learning (PBL) within technical education. It explores opportunities such as enhanced creativity, accelerated prototyping, improved documentation efficiency, and personalized troubleshooting support. The study also identifies and discusses challenges to the integration of GenAI such as threats to foundational skill development, academic integrity concerns, potential bias in outputs, and difficulties in authentic assessment. The study critically examines how students utilize these tools throughout the technical project lifecycle and evaluates their perceived impact on learning processes and outcomes. Furthermore, it identifies, develops, and assesses pedagogical strategies teachers can employ to leverage GenAI effectively. The research employs a mixed-methods approach to develop and test practical pedagogical frameworks. The findings aim to provide evidence-based guidance for educators and institutions wanting to integrate GenAI into hands-on technical curricula, preparing graduates who are both technically proficient and ready to collaborate responsibly with AI.
