Abstract
Teacher education is an integral component of Nigeria’s national policy on education, playing a pivotal role of providing quality education at all levels. Accordingly, incorporation of emerging digital resources in teacher-training programs is not an issue of parochial choice but a survival imperative. This paper seeks to examine the trend and issues in teacher education in Nigeria requiring a paradigm shift for global best practices. The paper spotlighted funding gaps, digital competency, institutional readiness in penetration and utilization of digital resources and dearth of unified approach among others, as cardinal loopholes in teacher preparation in Nigeria. It is the opinion of this paper that mainstreaming nano-technology in teacher training in Nigeria would remain a nightmare if the attendant pit-falls are not squarely nipped. Thereupon, the paper explored some exotic strategies to address the complex needs of innovative learning tools for Nigeria to compete on the global stage.
