The advent of e-learning has led to the development of different learning platforms aside the traditional google platforms. This paper examines the readiness of learners and mastery of the online teaching resources by educators in the delivery of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Nigeria. It examines the readiness of students to digital education and the competence and utilization of the digital learning resources by lecturers. It also identifies the digital/online educational resources being utilized.
The research design used is a descriptive survey which involves lecturers and students from selected tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The instrument for data collection is a structured questionnaire which was analysed by simple percentage and illustrated with charts. It was discovered that a large number of lecturers have not fully achieved a complete mastery of online teaching and learning platforms. Students’ apathy was also observed due to the lack of appropriate digital devices. Also of note is the inadequate bandwidth for fast internet connectivity, erratic power supply poor governmental funding and lack of motivation,
It is therefore deduced that the mastery of online digital resources and its utilization in the teaching and learning process plays a crucial role in improving the quality of STEM education and encourage collaborative teaching and globalized learning. Recommendations made include training, in-training and retraining of lecturers on the use of digital resources, adequate provision of infrastructure and creating, enabling environment for digital teaching to thrive and motivation for lecturers.
