TOPIC: INNOVATIVE RESEARCH AND COLLABORATIVE TEACHING FOR SOCIETAL AND ECONOMIC IMPACT: AN APPROACH TO SUSTAINABLE KNOWLEGDE PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT IN COLLEGES OF EDUCATION.
ABSTRACT
The growing complexity of global socio-economic challenges has increased the need for stronger research systems, innovative and collaborative networks capable of generating sustainable solutions. This paper examines the role of research, innovation, and collaboration in promoting social-economic impact in our society. Drawing on Quadruple Helix Theory, the study explores how colleges, industries and government interact to facilitate knowledge creation, technology transfer and social-economic development. A mix-method research design is proposed. The study argues that effective collaboration among stakeholders enhances research productivity, accelerates innovation diffusion among others. Findings indicate that collaborative research networks, strategic innovation and inclusive governance structure significantly contribute to societal well-being and economic competitiveness. However, institutional barriers, inadequate funding, weak policy implementation and limited industry-academia continue to constrain impact. The paper concludes that strengthening research capacity, fostering innovative eco-systems and institutionalizing collaborative frameworks are critical for achieving sustainable development goals. Recommendations are provided for governments, higher education institutions, industries to enhance research effectiveness and innovative-driven growth.
