Track: Digital Transformation in Higher Education

The prevalence of digital technologies has fundamentally transformed the landscape of English Language Teaching (ELT) and research, creating new opportunities for innovation, accessibility, and learner-centered pedagogy. Adavancements in artificial intelligence (AI), learning management systems, virtual classrooms, mobile learning applications and data analytics are redefining how English is taught, learned, assessed, and investigated across diverse educational spheres. It is in this regard that his paper examines the critical implications of these digital innovations for contemporary ELT and language research. It is indeed with particular attention to developing countries where technological advancement presents both significant opportunities and persistent challenges. This study adopts a conceptual and analytical approach in synthesizing current literature. It is with a view to exploring the integration of AI-powered instructional tools, adaptive learning platforms, computer-assisted language learning (CALL), corpus linguistics. The objective is to enhance language proficiency, learner engagement, teacher effectiveness, and research productivity. The paper further interrogates emerging concerns relating to digital inequality, ethical use of artificial intelligence, academic integrity, teacher digital competence, cybersecurity, and the preservation of critical thinking in technology-mediated learning environments. It argues that meaningful transformation in ELT extends beyond the mere adoption of digital tools to the strategic redesign of pedagogical practices, curriculum development, assessment frameworks, and research methodologies that promote inclusivity, creativity, collaboration, and lifelong learning. The paper concludes that sustainable digital transformation requires continuous professional development, robust institutional support, equitable access to technological resources, and policy frameworks that balance innovation with ethical responsibility. By providing an integrated perspective on the intersection of digital technologies, English language education, and scholarly inquiry, the study contributes to ongoing global conversations on the future of language education in an increasingly digital society.
