Track: Digital Transformation in Higher Education

Physics Education plays a critical role in developing the scientific and technological competencies required for sustainable national development. However, the evolving digital landscape has transformed the delivery of Science Education, creating both opportunities and challenges for Higher Education institutions in Nigeria. This review paper examines the potential of digital transformation to enhance sustainable physics education through the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual laboratories, simulations, learning management systems, and open educational resources. Drawing on contemporary literature, the paper explores how these innovations can improve conceptual understanding, promote learner engagement, facilitate flexible learning, and expand access to quality physics education. The review also highlights key challenges hindering effective digital integration, including inadequate infrastructure, unreliable electricity supply, limited internet connectivity, insufficient funding, and gaps in digital literacy among educators and students. The paper argues that addressing these barriers through strategic investment, policy support, and capacity-building initiatives is essential for building resilient and future-ready higher education ecosystems. It concludes that digital transformation offers a viable pathway for advancing sustainable physics education and strengthening scientific capacity in Nigeria.
