Track: Digital Transformation in Higher Education
This study investigated the adoption, integration, and challenges of digital innovation in Federal Colleges of Education (Technical) across North Eastern Nigeria. As technical teacher education increasingly relies on modern technological frameworks to enhance pedagogical delivery and administrative efficiency, understanding the state of digital transformation in these specialized institutions becomes critical. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population comprised all two Federal Colleges of Education (Technical) in Northeastern Nigeria, namely Federal College of Education (Technical), Potiskum and Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe. Given the manageable size of the target population, a census sampling technique was utilized, capturing the total population of academic staff and ICT personnel across both institutions. Data were gathered using a structured questionnaire titled “Digital Innovation Assessment Questionnaire” (DIAQ) and analyzed using mean scores, standard deviations, and percentages. The study highlights the current state of digital infrastructure, key drivers of technology adoption, and significant barriers such as bandwidth constraints, power instability, and funding deficits limiting full digital integration. The findings underscore the urgent need for targeted intervention to foster robust digital ecosystems in technical teacher education. Consequently, the study recommends strategic public-private partnerships, continuous capacity-building programs for academic staff, and sustainable funding frameworks to institutionalize digital innovation within technical education in the region.
