Track: Digital Pedagogy and Teaching Innovation
There is a dire need for digital transformations in tertiary institutions, especially in developing nations where analogue practices are still prevalent. This needed transformation represents a comprehensive shift towards integrating digital technologies to modernise academic, administrative operations and research with a view to actualising smart campuses. This paper focuses on the exploration of digital technologies in tertiary institutions which highlights a crucial transition from traditional paper-heavy workflows to fully automated paperless administration ecosystem. This paradigm shift addresses both the need for institutional sustainability and the growing demand for real-time accessibility of academic and relevant records. Other vital issues discussed include; Administration Modernisation which involves a shift from over reliance on paperwork to cloud-based document management for processes such as Academic Board proceedings, staff appraisals, examination records and so on; Utilization of Robotic Process automation and Artificial Intelligence which allows institutions to accelerate document processing. Challenges associated with this shift are also discussed which include Digital Literacy, Infrastructure Deficits and Culture Resistance. Recommendations are made which include the need for reasonable investment by Governments in developing nations on digital infrastructure and align reward systems with digital adoption.
