Track: Digital Pedagogy and Teaching Innovation

This study presents a review of existing literature on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in physics education and its potential to enhance conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills among undergraduate students in Nigeria. Physics, as a core science discipline, is often characterized by abstract and mathematically intensive concepts such as mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum physics, which pose significant learning challenges for students. Recent advancements in AI-driven educational technologies have introduced innovative instructional approaches, including adaptive learning systems, intelligent tutoring systems, simulation-based visualization tools, and real-time feedback mechanisms. The review synthesizes scholarly works on the application of AI in physics teaching and learning, with emphasis on its role in improving student engagement, conceptual clarity, and analytical reasoning skills. It further examines reported benefits such as personalized instruction, enhanced visualization of complex phenomena, and improved academic performance. In addition, the study highlights contextual challenges affecting AI adoption in Nigerian higher education, including inadequate digital infrastructure, limited lecturer competence, and funding constraints.
